1970’s BESPOKE “Groovease” 3Pc Denim APPLIQUÉ 3Pc BELL BOTTOM SUIT

Rare, Vintage 1970’s Custom-Made 3-Piece Denim Suit with both light/dark Denim Flame-Style Appliqué, Sewn by Tom & Vivienne Scozzafava, 220 East 60th St., New York. Acquired from the estate of the original wearer, who at that time modeled in Manhattan. Jacket has Two Pockets & is Fully-Lined in Plaid Knit Jersey. The Vest has Plastic Figural Copper Indian Head Buttons, Jacket has Shield-Crest Plastic Buttons. Jacket has Deep Vents at the rear creating a near-Edwardian Revival Riding Jacket style. Not much information about the makers, other than they were extremely skilled with Appliqué & their garments were very pricey (noted in an article from New York Magazine, April, 1991). They incorporated this particular “Groovease” label in August, 1987 & it was dissolved a few months later. Bell Bottom Pants measure Waist-27″, Hip-34″, Inseam-33 1/2″, diameter across the Bell-13 1/4″, Rise-12″. Vest Chest-36″, Waist-29″. Jacket Chest-36″, Waist-29″, Sleeve-23 1/2″, Shoulder seam to seam-14″, Length rear collar seam to hem-28″. Jacket & Vest are in very good condition with normal wear, some small stains/spots as shown, dirt at the inside crease of neckline & a dinge line down the sides of the arms along the seams. Vest has a light dinge under the right arm at rear with a light cluster of specks/small spots south of this. Pants show more wear, & have been taken in at waist as shown. A few small areas where the appliqué will have pops at the edges. Area at lower right leg where there’s a widespread light brownish outlined stain around the seam of the lower seat/crotch (both shown). The Vest is interchangeable with the Ivory Gabardine suit of the same label, also on this website, from the same owner.
