Description

Circa 1952, Christian Dior New York Dove Gray & Ivory Princess Seamed Coat, Beautifully Displaying the Designer’s Signature “New Look” with wasp-waist belted silhouette & full sweeping skirt. Graphically Stunning Vertical Twist Cord Soutache Trim, Soft Shoulder Pads, Rolled Cuffs & Two Hip Pockets, Lined in Black Rayon Satin Charmeuse. The Dior tag at the side seam edge interior (see tell-tale sign, last photo) was removed, but the Black Leather Belt is Clearly stamped “Christian Dior New York 14”. In the 50s-70s, it was commonplace for boutique owners to remove designer labels, as they did not want the competing boutiques in the same small geographical areas, knowing how much they sold the pieces for. Keeping that info was prize to competing boutique owners in the same exclusive neighborhoods (such is the case here, in Pittsburgh). Over the years (after repeatedly acquiring what are clearly designer pieces with no labels) I was finally able to solve the mystery by speaking with unrelated customers & owners of these local shops, (all who confirm this is the reason the labels were removed). This Coat appears Hardly Worn, the Condition is Exceptional, No rips/holes/tears or stains. There are a few loose threads at the cross-stitches at lining in center waist (see pic). Original Owner added her own custom “hole” at the tip of the belt to extend the wear as her waistline expanded, additional tiny “prick” in the leather belt along the length as shown. Size 14, Measures Chest 34-36″, Waist-29″, Free Hip, Sleeve (un-rolled)-23″, Seamless shoulder, Length rear collar seam to hem-43 1/2″, Diameter of hem sweep laid flat is 50″. There are 2 additional union labels in the coat as shown, one is in the lining at arm hole area (which is the white spot you see in the picture), it is not a hole. Rare Addition to the Dior Collection.
